Geology and Mining History
Gregg did his doctoral thesis while at the University of Texas, El Paso on the silver mines of Batopilas, Chihuahua Mexico which were discovered in 1593. He has worked in all the western states, Canada, Mexico, Chili, and Albania. He has taught at the following colleges and Universities:
Ventura City College, California; University of Texas, El Paso; New Mexico State University, Las Cruces; California State University, Bakersfield.
Undergraduate Classes taught by Gregg: Historical Geology, Physical Geology, Introduction to Geophysics, Structural Geology, Field Geology, Geology and Hollywood, Archeology and the Old Testament, Paleontology.
Graduate Courses taught by Gregg: Environmental Law and Regulation, Ore Deposits.
Gregg has worked as an economic geologist for or with the following federal government agencies: U.S. Bureau of Land Managment, U.S. Forest Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Fish and Wildlife Service, Security Exchange Commission.

1)
California Professional Geologist #4260. Gregg is authorized to produce geologic reports and make economic evaluations of mineral properties on private and non-federal public lands in California.

2) Department of Interior Certified Mineral Examiner #085. Over his career Gregg has examined or appraised thousands of mining claims and mining operations while consulting, working for mining companies and serving at government agencies. He has also evaluated several oil and gas properties throughout California. He is one of a select group of professionals authorized by the Department of the Interior to author mining claim validity reports in the United States and to defend those findings in legal proceedings. He has also served as expert witness for the U.S. Securities Exchange commission. He is also an expert in abandoned mine inventory and mitigation for human safety and environmental hazards. He has a passion for paleontology and mineralogy and has authored several papers on those subjects.

4) Old Ridge Route Preservation Organization. Gregg helped this organization get the Old Ridge Route between the San Joaquin Valley and the San Fernando Valley recognized as a National Historic Roadway. The ORRP is working to restore the Old Ridge Route to its original configuration and condition.

Field Trips: Geology, Paleontology, Mineralogy and History
Gregg manages an on-going geology and mining history field trip program for the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History (BVMNH). He has designed and led 35 different field trips throughout California since 1992. Gregg has a special interest in the Mother Lode Gold Belt and in the mines and mineralization of the Mojave Desert and Death Valley. He is also an expert on the geology of the San Andreas Fault Zone between Hollister and Cajon Pass. Field guides are available for many of Gregg's trips through BVMNH. Many of Gregg’s field trips can be taken for continuing education credit through California State University, Bakersfield.
