Pleochroic Haloes are spherical discolorations in biotite crystal lattice that are the result of alpha ray damage from a radioactive inclusion. In 1988, Robert Gentry wrote a book about them titled Creation’s Tiny Mystery (on line version http://www.halos.com/book/ctm-toc.htm).
Dr. Gentry wrote that these haloes proved the world (and universe) was created a few thousand years ago. Gregg Wilkerson and Richard Wakefield reviewed the geologic information related to these haloes in their paper “Geologic Setting of Pleochroic Haloes.” In that paper they demonstrated that the pleochroic haloes are the most recent geologic events in the uranium deposits from whence Gentry obtained his samples. The pleochroic haloes are not evidence for an instantaneous creation event 10,000 years ago.
