This project was proposed and is being implemented by the Geology Department at California State University Bakersfield.
The purpose of the project is to provide an outdoor Covid-19 safe area for students to study rocks and minerals on the campus of CSUB.
This purpose of this project is to create a visual and tactile experience where students can learn about rocks and geologic time. The project will obtain and install a series or rock boulders. These rock boulders will be representative of geologic events and periods in California. They will also exhibit representative and characteristic rock properties.
Boulders of representative of rock formations in Central California will be collected. The boulders will be between 200 and 1000 lbs each. They will be selected to also show classic petrographic, structural and textural features of the basic rock groups.
